Recruitment scam notice

Fraudsters sometimes pretend to be recruitment agencies to take money or personal details from people looking for work. Here is how we work, how to check a message really came from us, and what to do if something feels wrong.

What OpenSourced will never do

Our service is free for candidates. UK law does not allow recruitment agencies to charge you a fee for finding you work.

  • Ask you to pay for anything: an application, training, equipment, a visa, a background check or a "starter kit".
  • Ask for your bank or card details, or any password, to apply for a role.
  • Offer you a job without an interview with the employer.
  • Run interviews only by text, WhatsApp or Telegram chat.
  • Offer paid "tasks", product reviews or app work, or ask you to receive or pass on money, cheques or parcels.
  • Email you from a Gmail, Outlook or other personal email account.

How to check it's really us

  • Our consultants email from @opensourced.tech addresses. Check the whole address, not just the name shown.
  • Call us on 0118 405 0065, using the number on this website rather than one in the message, and ask for the consultant by name.
  • Look up the consultant on our About page and on LinkedIn.
  • Find the role on our jobs page. Some confidential roles are not advertised, so if you cannot see it, call us to check.
  • OpenSourced Ltd is registered in England and Wales, company number 14076697. You can check us on Companies House.

If anyone asks you for ID documents, money or bank details in our name and you are not sure, call us before you reply.

If you think you've been targeted

Act quickly, especially if you have paid money or shared bank details.

  1. Stop and don't pay

Stop replying. Don't send money, documents or security codes, and don't click links in the message.

  2. Call your bank

If you have paid or shared bank details, call your bank straight away on 159 or the number on the back of your card.

  3. Report it

Report it to Report Fraud or call 0300 123 2040 (England, Wales and Northern Ireland). In Scotland, call Police Scotland on 101.

  4. Forward it and tell us

Forward scam emails to report@phishing.gov.uk and scam texts to 7726. Then email info@opensourced.tech so we can warn others.

Not sure about a message?

Ask us. We would much rather check a message for you than see someone caught out in our name.
